Korean Association for Ethical Organ Transplants (KAEOT) is committed to raising the awareness of forced organ harvesting that is a crime against humanity and thereby preventing potential Korean recipients from being involved in illegal organ transplant acts. Forced organ harvesting refers to the unlawful practices of removing organs from live human beings without their consent. Exposing the atrocity of this practice, KAEOT aims to further the ethical medical practices that respect the dignity and rights of the human person.
KAEOT is the extension of the International Association for Ethical Organ Transplants (IAEOT) founded in 2012. It shares a common purpose with international organizations, including an international organization of medical doctors called Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting (DAFOH), Taiwan Association for International Care of Organ Transplants, and Transplant Tourism Research Association(TTRA) based in Japan.
KAEOT activities include:
● Compiling and analyzing the evidence and data regarding forced organ harvesting including adverse events and injury cases and disseminating the findings locally and internationally,
● Organizing seminars, conducting research, and publishing articles to help the general public realize the importance of bioethics and ethical medical practices that protect human rights, and
● Especially, bringing the forced organ harvesting issue in China to the attention of the Korean public and policymakers and calling for the introduction of regulations. Particularly, we seek measures to protect potential Korean recipients from being complicit in or falling victim to the systemic, state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting in China, which is a crime against humanity.
KAEOT is a member of Korea Donate Life Network (KODONET) whose other member includes Life Share Korea and One-Body One-Spirit. Also, KAEOT holds forums and discussions in the Korean Assembly (the Parliament) with other transplant-related organizations, Vital Link, Korea Organ Donation Agency, and the Korean Society for Transplantation.
